Community Inclusion Currency

A community inclusion currency (CIC) is a form of community currency. CICs are designed to facilitate trade within a community that is underserved by fiat currencies issued by central banks or monetary authorities.

Shortages of fiat currency result in less trade and subsequently in less production. Community inclusion currencies aim to stimulate economies in communities suffering from fiat currency shortages by providing an alternative means of exchange.

CICs are typically circulated by non-profit organizations. The organization which backs a CIC promotes its acceptance as a payment method within a community. The organization also provides low-cost loans denominated by the CIC to businesses within the community as a means of circulating the CIC. Airdrops may also be used to encourage CIC circulation.
