Is it possible to get a bank account without payment cards? All I need is a basic bank account and I never actually use the cards, so I would rather not pay good money for services I don't even use.

Greetings,

Yes, it is possible to get a private account without getting a debit card. If you make withdrawals directly at the till or if you do most of your banking online, then ditching the debit card can save you money because most Swiss banks charge an annual fee (between CHF 30 and CHF 50) for a debit card.

The moneyland.ch private account comparison makes it easy to find out how leaving out a debit card affects the cost of accounts. Just make sure to deselect the "With debit card?" checkbox when entering your criteria.

Best regards from Moneyguru
