My son (35 years old) has had a tough time finding his way in life and has repeatedly claimed financial support from the welfare office in the town we live in. This has been going on for more than 10 years and I am worried about how this will affect me financially. Some people told me that parents have to pay back welfare money paid out to their kids in Switzerland. Is that true?

Hi there,

Rules and regulations governing welfare vary between cantons and municipalities. But as a general rule, parents may be required to support their grown children who claim welfare benefits if the parents are deemed to be wealthy based on their taxable income and wealth.
