How Do I Calculate How Much Discounts Are Worth?

Is there a basic rule/trick for calculating how much a discount is worth when it is given as a percentage of the price? I do know basic math, but this can get pretty complicated when prices are large or uneven, or when complicated discount models are used (several tiers, for example).
