Good day,

I live in Belarus and plan to continue living here, but I would like to open a Swiss bank account.

How should I go about this? Which account would you recommend? Can I open a Swiss bank account remotely from Belarus?

Kind regards

Good day

There may be differences from bank to bank as to whether or not clients resident in certain countries are accepted. Many Swiss banks do not publish this information.

What is clear is that if it is possible to open an account with a domicile abroad, Swiss banks generally charge high additional fees for a checkings account.

If you only want to trade shares and other securities, the additional fees are often not as high. You can find a comparison with Swiss brokers here.

In my experience, nowadays most Swiss banks only open accounts for non-residents if you subscribe to asset management. These generally have high minimum capital requirements. But there are some fairly manageable and affordable asset management options.

As stated by Moneyguru, Swiss stock broker banks like Swissquote provide a good alternative to conventional banks for non-residents.

May i ask why, out of curiosity, why do you, as an american, would like to open a Swiss bank account?

These days, there is no more secracy in the swiss banks, and the fees are much higher than in American banks. So what advantage do you see in a Swiss bank?

If trading is your purpose, than Swiss brokers are far from being able to compete with on line brokers like ameritrade or interactivebrokers, where you pay acctualy zero, nothing, for placing trades, and for account maintenance. So why to bother with the expensive and over regulated Swiss banks?
