I am a house-husband and work just one day per week. I earn around 15,000 Swiss francs per year off my job, but my employer has not yet signed me up to a pension fund. Can I join a pension fund as a part-time worker?

Hi there,

In Switzerland, only salaries which exceed a certain threshold are subject to compulsory pension fund contributions. In 2017 for example, this threshold is CHF 21'150.00 per annum - around CHF 1762.50 per month. If your salary falls below that threshold, you will not automatically be subcribed to your employer's pension fund.

You may be able to voluntarily subscribe to the pension fund run by the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution. The third pillar of retirement savings (private savings) provides another option for you to save for retirement.

Best regards from Moneyguru
