London Metal Exchange (LME)

The London Metal Exchange (LME) was established in 1877 and became a subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Limited in 2012. The vast majority of the worlds trades in non-ferrous metals occur on the LME.

The LME uses both a trading floor with open-outcry and electronic trading (for specific metals). Investment products traded on the LME are derived from precious metals, ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals. The contracts traded on the LME are primarily futures and options designed to hedge against fluctuations in metal prices.

The London Metal Exchange Index (LMEX) tracks exchange performance.
