Neobank

The term neobank is used to denote financial services providers which offer their services entirely through digital channels and compete directly with conventional banks. Many neobanks offer their services primarily through a mobile app, which is why they are sometimes referred to as smartphone banks.

In many cases, Neobanks are new startups rather than established financial services providers.

Not all neobanks hold banking licenses. Many of them collaborate with bank or other established service providers which provide some or all of the actual services. Neobanks, for their part, typically manage the production and maintenance of the mobile app, provide customer services, and manage customer onboarding and relationships.
