Regional Bank

In Switzerland, retail banks which only provide financial services in a limited geographic region within Switzerland are categorized as regional banks. More than 60 regional banks operate in Switzerland with some of these operating across multiple cantons and others servicing a single municipality.

Swiss regional banks play a significant role in Switzerland's savings and mortgage sectors. Regional banks are supervised by Finma and participate in the depositor protection scheme managed by Esisuisse.

The Swiss association of regional banks (Verband Schweizer Regionalbanken / Association des banques régionales suisses) represents the interests of Swiss regional banks.

Like Raiffeisen banks, some regional banks collaborate in certain sectors and some also share branding, although each bank still operates independently.

Regional banks are included in the interactive moneyland.ch banking comparisons.
