How Much Do Tax Statements From Swiss Banks Cost?

February 24, 2024 - Ralf Beyeler

Tax statements can greatly simplify the process of filling out your tax returns. Here, moneyland.ch tells you how much tax statements from different Swiss banks cost.

Without a tax statement, entering investments into the securities form of your Swiss tax return can take a lot of time. You have to gather all of the information about your various investments from different documents from your bank, and write this information in the correct fields.

But you can save yourself that work because banks, stock brokers, online asset managers, and neobanks offer tax statements. Many also offer electronic tax statements.

Tax certificate, tax statement, or e-tax statement?

In Switzerland, you have to provide proof of your bank accounts and securities custody accounts in your tax returns. There are three different documents that can be used for this purpose.

  • Tax certificate: Most banks provide tax certificates free of charge. Tax certificates for bank accounts are often called interest statements. You have to transfer the information from these tax certificates to your tax return manually.
  • Tax statement: Many banks offer tax statements, often for a fee. The advantage of tax statements is that you only need to copy three values from the statement to your tax return for all your accounts at one bank combined.
  • E-tax statement: The digital version of a tax statement, the e-tax statement, makes completing tax returns even easier. An e-tax statement contains the same information as a tax statement, but includes a barcode that can be read by Swiss tax software. When you scan this barcode, all the information is automatically transferred to the correct fields in your tax return. You can find more information in the moneyland.ch guide to e-tax statements.

The digital version: E-tax statements

E-tax statements contain information that can be automatically transferred to your tax return. Alternatively, you also have the option of copying data manually. Some Swiss banks only offer e-tax statements.

You can find information about Swiss electronic tax statements and the fees charged for them in our guide to e-tax statements. If you want to use e-tax statements, get informed about the fees charged by your bank in our guide.

Major price differences

The fees charged for tax statements vary between financial services providers. Some offer tax statements free of charge. Others charge as much as several hundred francs. It is also common for banks to offer tax statements free of charge if you use certain banking products, while charging a fee if you do not use these products.
