With immediate effect, Wingo is launching its new Fair Europe and Fair Surf mobile plans. Wingo – a subsidiary of Swisscom – will continue to offer its Wingo Fair Flat mobile plan.
What does Fair Surf offer?
The Fair Surf mobile plan is designed for phone users which primarily use mobile data and rarely or never make phone calls. The monthly fee for the Fair Surf plan is 5 francs lower than the monthly fee for the Fair Flat plan. However, Flat Surf users pay an additional fee of 1 franc per day in which they send SMS messages or use phone calls.
The plan costs 20 francs per month and includes 2 gigabytes of mobile data for use in Switzerland or in EU countries. Each additional gigabyte of data costs 5 francs, up to a threshold of 8 gigabytes of data per month. After that, user benefit from unlimited local data in Switzerland for the rest of the month at no additional charge, but additional data roaming is charged on top.
What does Fair Europe offer?
The Fair Europe plan is designed for phone users who travel outside of Switzerland often and use their phones to make calls. The monthly fee for the Fair Europe plan is 15 francs higher than the Fair Flat plan’s monthly flat fee. The monthly flat fee covers unlimited phone calls and SMS messaging within Switzerland and most European countries.
The plan cost 40 francs per month and includes 2 gigabytes of mobile data for use in Switzerland or EU countries. Users can add up to five 1-gigabyte data bundles for 5 francs per bundle, after which they can add an additional 5-gigabyte bundle for 5 francs. So, users pay 70 francs per month for the maximum of 12 gigabytes of mobile data in Switzerland and Europe. After that, users benefit from unlimited local mobile data in Switzerland at no extra charge, but additional bundles are required for additional mobile roaming.
Until March 16, 2020, Wingo is running a special promotional offer for the Fair Europe plan with 10 gigabytes of mobile data per month included for a 40-franc monthly flat fee.

The new Wingo plans are difficult to compare. One reason for this is that with Wingo, the exact dates on which you use mobile roaming affect the value you get for your money. A heavy user will pay less for roaming between the third and tenth day of a month than they would pay between the twenty-second and twenty-ninth day of a month.
Up until now, Wingo has had a very simple strategy: A single plan which meets all mobile telecom needs. Sadly, Swisscom has decided to ditch Wingo’s previous unique market positioning.
The Fair Surf plan is an interesting option for users who hardly use their phones to make calls. If you make phone calls on less than four days per month, the Fair Surf works out cheaper than the original Wingo Fair Flat plan.
The Fair Europe plan does not compare quite as well. The new Fair Europe plan cost 180 francs more per year than the original Wingo Fair Flat plan. For that markup, users get unlimited SMS and call roaming in Europe. But many consumers do not travel outside of Switzerland every month.
For frequent users who frequently travel outside of Switzerland, there are many plans which are much more attractive than Fair Europe. Swisscom, for example, offers a mobile plan for 80 francs per month which includes unlimited local data and 40 gigabytes of data roaming. By comparison, Wingo users would pay 85 francs for between 1 and 13 gigabytes of roaming data per month – depending on when they travel and how much data they use locally in Switzerland.
