Wingo Launches Prepaid Mobile

June 17, 2020 - Ralf Beyeler

Swisscom subsidiary Wingo is now offering prepaid mobile bundles. Get informed in this review by telecom expert Ralf Beyeler from independent online comparison service moneyland.ch.

Swiss mobile service provider Wingo has added prepaid services to its product lineup under the Flat Pass brand. Wingo, which previously only offered mobile plans, launched three prepaid offers with unlimited local calls and data for a flat fee. The prepaid bundles vary with regards to their validity periods, with terms of 7, 90 and 365 days.

The three prepaid bundles from Wingo

  • The Flat 7 prepaid bundle gives you unlimited local calls and mobile data for 7 days and costs 14 Swiss francs.
  • The Flat 90 prepaid bundle gives you unlimited local calls and data for 90 days and costs 120 francs.
  • The Flat 365 prepaid bundle gives you unlimited local calls and data for a whole year and costs 480 francs. The Flat 365 bundle is being offered for 280 francs as a special promotion until August 17, 2020.

Differences to conventional prepaid services

The Wingo prepaid service differs from most other prepaid mobile services on some key points.
Instead of buying prepaid credits, you provide Wingo with your credit card or PostFinance debit card information when you activate the prepaid SIM. Every time you buy a Wingo prepaid bundle, the purchase is charged to your card.

Important: By default, Wingo automatically sells you an identical prepaid bundle each time a bundle expires and charges your card for the new bundle. However, you have the option of deactivating the automatic renewal function.

In order to make international calls or to purchase mobile roaming bundles, you have to buy additional prepaid credits in advance. The roaming terms and conditions are identical to those of Wingo mobile plans.
It is also worth noting that Wingo does not charge a one-time SIM activation fee for its Flat Pass prepaid service.

Comparison with competing offers

The new Wingo prepaid offers are relatively expensive compared to other Swiss mobile plans and prepaid offers from Wingo’s competitors. The monthly cost of Wingo’s Flat 90 and Flat 365 bundles averages 40 francs per month – a relatively high flat fee for unlimited local calls and data.

The 7-day bundle, on the other hand, is an interesting option for tourists, guests and other short-term visitors to Switzerland. According to Wingo, SIM deliveries to hotels are also possible.

The special promotional offer of 280 francs instead of 480 francs for the Flat 365 bundle is more attractive. The cost averages 23 francs per month, which puts in the same price range as the special promotions for flat-fee mobile plans offered by other Swiss mobile service providers.
