Yallo Now Offering Fast Optical Fiber Internet

December 8, 2020 - Ralf Beyeler

Sunrise budget subsidiary Yallo is now offering a new Yallo Fiber optical fiber Internet connection. Ralf Beyeler from independent online comparison service moneyland.ch analyses Yallo Fiber in this report.

Up until now Yallo, a budget subsidiary of Sunrise, has only offered mobile telecom connections. This has changed with the launch of Yallo Fiber – a Swiss Internet plan which uses optical fiber connections.

Yallo Fiber is fairly straightforward. Subscribers get an optical fiber Internet connection which delivers speeds of up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps).

Complimentary Wilmaa and Sky access

Yallo Fiber subscribers benefit from a complimentary Wilmaa Me Plus subscription for the first 24 months at no additional cost. This TV plan includes 260 channels, 7-day time shifting and a 1500-hour TV recording function. Wilmaa is also a Sunrise subsidiary.

Currently, Yallo Fiber subscribers also receive 2 months of complimentary access to their pick of the Sky Show or Sky Sport streaming services.

What does Yallo Fiber cost?

The Yallo Fiber plan costs 69 francs per month at the standard price. Yallo is running an introductory promotional offer by which early subscribers can get Yallo Fiber for 49 francs per month for the duration of their subscription.

If you already have a Yallo mobile plan, you can get Yallo Fiber for 39 francs per month standard. This applies even if you got your Yallo mobile plan as part of a special promotion. Yallo prepaid mobile users do not benefit from the multiple-plan discount.

You pay a one-time initial setup fee of 99 francs. The minimum contract term is 24 months. In order to subscribe to Yallo Fiber, your home must be equipped with an optical fiber connection.

Analysis by telecom expert Ralf Beyeler

Yallo has won many customers in recent years thanks to its numerous special promotions on mobile plans. Now Yallo has expanded to offering a home Internet plan as well.

Yallo has obviously drawn its inspiration from Salt, which offers its mobile plan subscribers an optical fiber Internet plan for 39.95 francs per month. Yallo mobile plan subscribers pay 95 centimes per month less for Yallo Fiber than Salt users pay for a Salt Internet connection. Another small difference is that Salt users receive a complimentary Apple TV console and a flat fee landline plan – which is not the case with Yallo.

It is unfortunate that both Yallo and Salt only offer fixed line Internet plans for optical fiber connections.

Good to know: Yallo and other service providers like Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt and iWay all advertise Internet connection speeds of 10 Gbps. In practice, many Internet users are not likely to notice a difference between a 1 Gbps connection an a 10 Gbps connection. Typically, up to 32 Internet connections use 10 Gbps of bandwidth. Many computers, laptops and smartphones are not capable of transmitting data at more than 1 Gbps.
