Many pet insurance offers have relatively high premium in relation to the coverage they provide. Not all pet insurances for cats and dogs are worth getting. That is why comparing offers using an unbiased comparison is important.

The moneyland.ch comparison also lets you compare only the optimal versions of each pet insurance offer. The cost breakdowns on the results page automatically show you whether or not the best available offer for your anticipated veterinary expenses is worth getting.

Yes. A stamp duty equal to 5% of total premiums is charged on top of premiums. The cost of stamp duties is accounted for in the comparison.

In addition to the insurance premiums you pay, there are also other costs which may apply. These are all accounted for in the moneyland.ch comparison. These are the main costs which may apply to pet insurance:

  • Insurance premiums.
  • Stamp duties equal to 5% of insurance premiums.
  • Coinsurance: Many pet insurances require you to cover a percentage of each covered expense yourself. For example, you may have to cover 10% of all veterinarian bills yourself.
  • Deductible: Many pet insurance policies also have fixed annual deductibles. The deductible is the portion of expenses which you must pay in a given year. The insurance only covers expenses in excess of the deductible. For example, pet insurance offers may have annual deductibles of 100, 250, 300 or 1000 francs.
  • One-time fee: Many pet insurance providers charged a one-time fee when you take out pet insurance. For example, you may a one-off administrative fee of 10 francs when you first get an insurance.

Sum insured: Many pet insurance offers have limits on the maximum coverage they provide. You have to cover costs in excess of the sum insured out of your own pocket. For example, a pet insurance policy may cover up to 1000, 5000, or 50,000 francs. If your veterinary expenses exceed that limit, you have to cover the difference.

Pet insurance offers with low limits on coverage and high deductibles often have the lowest premiums. But the downside is that you have to cover the bulk of costs yourself, while the insurance covers relatively little.

In many cases, paying higher premiums in exchange for more coverage is a better financial move.

All important information with regards to premiums, coverage, coinsurance and deductibles is clearly shown in the moneyland.ch comparison.

Insurance providers differentiate between accident insurance (accidents only) and combined health and accident insurance. In many cases, only getting accident insurance is not worth it, because illnesses are more likely to generate high veterinary expenses. You can compare both types of pet insurance in the comparison.

Some pet insurers use constant insurance premiums which remain the same throughout the pet’s life. But there are also pet insurance providers which raise insurance premiums as your pet ages. You can find all insurance premiums clearly broken down on the information pages of each offer.

Typically, your cat or dog has to be at least three months old when you apply for pet insurance. Some insurers also have limits on how old your pet can be when you apply.

Migrating to a different pet insurance is not difficult. Just use the pet insurance comparison to see if there are any offers which you qualify for, and whether they are better than your current insurance. You can request free insurance quotes right from the comparison. Make sure not to give notice on your current insurance until your application is accepted by your new insurer, and make sure to give notice on time.

Typically, pet insurance does not include travel insurance for pets by default. However, you can often add this coverage in exchange for a markup on your premium.

Some pet insurance offers include travel medical insurance in their basic insurance premiums. Just note that the travel medical insurance offered by pet insurance providers is not general travel insurance and only covers some hazards (like serious illness, accidents or death of your pet).

You can filter pet insurance offers by the travel insurance coverage provided in the pet insurance comparison.

There are many treatments which Swiss pet insurance providers only partially cover, or do not cover at all. Always take time to read the fine print before you take out pet insurance.
