Alimony

The term “alimony” denotes a financial allowance paid by one separated or divorced spouse to the other. The purpose of alimony payments is to support a spouse which would not be in a position to support themselves.

In Switzerland, spouses are not normally obligated to pay alimony to a former spouse, although it may be required in some cases. In almost every case, parents who do not live with their children are required to make child support payments.
