The NASDAQ PHLX is the product of the NASDAQ acquisition of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) in 2007. Prior to its acquisition, the Philadelphia Stock Exchange was the oldest stock exchange in the U.S., having been founded in 1790.

A NASDAQ PHLX derivatives trading floor was opened in Philadelphia in 2017 to complement electronic trading and allow brokers to trade with minimal latency.

The NASDAQ PHLX primarily facilitates trading in options, including forex options, equity options and index options. More than 3000 derivative titles are traded on the exchange.
