Primary insurance – often simply referred to as insurance – is a guarantee of financial protection against losses which is provided directly to individuals or other entities which are not insurance providers by an insurance provider.

Reinsurance, on the other hand, is guarantee of financial protection provided by one insurance provider to another insurance provider.
