The Shanghai Stock Exchange is the largest stock exchange in China in terms of market capitalization, and one of the largest stock exchanges in the world.
Supervised by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the exchange hosts more than 1400 listed companies, many of which are parastatal. Listings are divided into A shares (high cap) and B shares (mid cap), with select shares available to investment via the Hong Kong Stock Exchange through the Shenzhen Connect program. The SSE functions as a non-profit organization.
The SSE Composite Index (SHCOMP) tracks the exchange’s performance.
