Swiss Lottery Winnings – Soon To Be Tax-Free?

Currently, all lottery and betting winnings are subject to taxation. However, winnings gained in casinos are tax-free. Now, the Federal Council is looking to change this unfair tax treatment.

If the Federal Council’s proposal is applied to the new law governing betting, lottery winnings and sport betting profits will also be tax-free.

Additionally, the Federal Council recommends allowing licensed internet betting games. The proposed rules also give poker fans a reason to smile: If the rules are implemented, small-stake betting games could legally be played outside of casinos.

The proposal is under review until August 20, 2014.
