Syndicated Loan

A syndicated loan is a loan which is provided to a borrower by a group of lenders rather than by a single lender. The group of lenders which jointly provide the loan capital is known as a loan syndicate.

Syndicated loans are most widely used by large enterprises with high or ultra-high capital requirements. Lending a very large sum of money to a single borrower would pose a very high level of risk to a single lender. By using syndicated loans, lenders can participate in profitable loans while at the same time sharing the risk with other lenders.

One or more mandated lead arranger is responsible for the structuring of the syndicated loan and the marketing of the loan to potential lenders on behalf of the borrower.
