5G

The term 5G, as it relates to telecommunications, denotes a standard for fifth-generation mobile communications. Radio-based mobile networks which are based on the 5G standard are theoretically capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to 20 Gbps. The 5G standard for mobile networks builds on the 4G standard.

Salt, Sunrise, and Swisscom all operate their own 5G networks with speeds of up to 2 Gbps. However, there are very few locations where consumers can connect at that speed. In practice, the actual connection speeds are often much lower. A connection speed of 100 Mbps is already considered very good.

In order to use 5G, both your mobile plan and your mobile device have to support 5G. You can use the 5G filter in the moneyland.ch mobile plan comparison to limit results to mobile plans which support 5G.
