EDGE

EDGE is the abbreviated form of enhanced data rates for GSM evolution.

EDGE is an extension of the GSM standard for mobile communications. It enables higher data transfer rates than GSM and GPRS, allowing for faster Internet connections.

EDGE was first offered in Switzerland in 2005. Because all three Swiss telecom network operators have since phased out their GSM networks, EDGE is no longer available in Switzerland. However, customers of Swiss mobile service providers can still make use of EDGE while roaming in other countries, if local networks support it.
