Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX)

The Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) is a commodities exchange in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Established in 2008, it is Ethiopia’s leading exchange for agricultural produce and plays an important role in the pricing of Ethiopian coffee – the country’s leading export product.

Membership on the exchange is open to both institutional commodities brokers which deal in multiple commodities and to individual traders (farmers, merchants and agricultural cooperatives, for example) which deal in a single commodity. The exchange also operates an arbitration tribunal and assist in the processing of contracts. In this way, the exchange provides producers themselves with an avenue for the sale of their products at market prices.

It also enables buyers to connect and trade with producers directly in a regulated exchange rather than dealing with intermediaries.
