Hi there,

There are a number of alternatives to Paypal which also allow you to easily transfer money online. However, these are not as widely accepted by merchants as Paypal. Some are primarily useful for transfers between individuals (the original purpose of Paypal) rather than the settlement of payments.

Here is a list of some of the Paypal alternatives:

1. Skrill - a multi-purpose money transfer tool similar to Paypal
2. Neteller - an online money transfer portal for secure payment while shopping online
3. Xoom - a Paypal-powered transfer solution similar for international money transfers
4. Payza - a money transfer and payment solution similar to Paypal
5. Barzahlen - If you live near the German border and shop online in Germany, this solution lets you pay cash in person at a broad network of merchants rather than using bank transfers or credit cards. Partners at which you can settle payments in cash include Rewe, Penny, Drogerei Markt (dm) and Real, among others.
6. Western Union - this longstanding wire transfer service provider now offers app-based and online money transfers. Some merchants - but not many - accept Western Union transfers for settlement of payments.
7. Ria Money Transfer - This is another online money transfer solution.
8. Transferwise - This peer to peer money transfer service offers exceptionally low transfer costs for transfers between international bank accounts.
9. Venmo - This app-based service lets you transfer money to other users and settle payments. It is not as widely accepted by merchants as Paypal is.
10. Revolut - This app lets you make local and international peer to peer payments at low rates. Revolut also offers a debit card with which you can withdraw money from your account in multiple currencies at favorable rates.

Update: Barzahlen payments can now be settled at SBB offices and ticket vending machines throughout Switzerland.
