Is it actually possible to open an anonymous bank account in Switzerland? Which banks offer these?
Hi there,
There is no such thing as an anonymous Swiss bank account. All Swiss banks are required to establish indisputable proof of a person's identity before accepting them as a customer.
However, a limited number of Swiss banks offer numbered bank accounts. A customer number is used in place of personal information for communications and transactions relating to this type of account. Knowledge of the customer's identity is limited to a limited number of bank employees.
If a criminal case is opened against a customer, the bank is required by law to provide information about the person's bank accounts as it would with any other bank account.
Numbered bank accounts are no longer widely available.
