Most fully online banks I have come across don't give the appearance of being really serious or trustworthy. Are these online "banks" actually banks in the legal sense of the term? Is money just as safe at one of these online banks as it is at my local bank?

All banks included in the moneyland.ch banking comparisons - including online banks - are registered with Swiss financial regulatory authority FINMA. Some of these banks operate almost entirely online (direct banks), although in every case they are backed by a conventional bank.

For example, banking services provided by online "bank" money-net.ch are really provided by the Berner Kantonalbank (BEKB). Banking from Cash are actually provided by Bank Zweiplus.

Important: The Internet is crawling with pseudo banks, lenders and other financial services providers. Some of these are legitimated - although they are not regulated by Swiss law. Others are direct or indirect scams aimed at conning you out of money. Stick with official Swiss online banks listed in the moneyland.ch banking comparisons.
