From what I've seen, the local Swiss divisions of foreign banks like French bank Credit Agricole and Italian Bank BPS offer some very competitive products. But are these foreign banks as secure as Swiss banks with regards to deposit protection and bank secrecy, etc?

Hi there,

Several foreign retail banks operate in Switzerland and numerous foreign banks have private banking or brokerage divisions in Switzerland.

Banks like Crédit Agricole Financements (Suisse) and Banca Popolare di Sondrio (Suisse) are registered with Swiss financial authority Finma and deposit guarantor Esisuisse. They are required to adher to Swiss banking laws. In this way they are effectively Swiss banks and provide a level of security similar to that of other Swiss banks.

The moneyland.ch financial comparisons include all Finma-registered retail banks, including Swiss divisions of foreign banks.

Best regards from Moneyguru
