I have a savings account at Credit Suisse and have decided that I want to close the account and withdraw my money in cash.

The bank clerk told me that I can withdraw my money if I choose to, but I cannot close my account unless I can provide proof that I have another account at another bank.

At the moment I do not have an account at any bank, nor do I wish to for the present.

Can a bank actually forbid me from closing my account with them if I do not open another bank account? Is having a bank account a legal requirement in Switzerland?

I would appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks.
