Would you recommend Cancelon for travel bookings? Is it reliable?

Cancelon is a service which links people who have unused hotel reservations but aren't able to get a refund (because the conditions of their trip cancellation insurance weren't met, for example) with travelers who are willing to buy the unused reservations at a discounted rate. This allows people whose travel plans have changed to recover some of their money, while travelers benefit from cheaper hotel stays.

When you use this type of portal to make hotel reservations, it is a good idea to contact the hotel in question directly after you recieve the booking confirmation to confirm whether the change to the reservation was in fact made.

It is also important to understand that you are buying the reservation from a private individual and not from a hotel. If for some reason you have to cancel your trip, you may have difficulty claiming a benefit for your hotel stay from your trip cancellation or trip interruption insurance because the original booking was not made in your name.

Booking through travel portals which are not registered in Switzerland comes with increased risk because foreign service providers are not subject to Swiss consumer protection laws.
