I plan to travel Europe by road this summer. Do I need to get special international car insurance before my trip? Is my normal Swiss car insurance valid outside the country?

Compulsory Swiss liability car insurance provides sufficient coverage for travel within most European countries. However, to be able to prove that you are properly insured while traveling outside of Switzerland, you should obtain a green card from your insurance provider. This document serves as proof of insurance and is accepted in most European countries. Most Swiss car insurance providers issue green cards at no cost upon request.
