I hold a number of Krugerrands which I would like to take with me to Switzerland. How much can I expect to pay in customs duties and VAT?

I don't think there is limit for bringing gold into Switzerland. I am not sure about taxes.

Switzerland does not charge VAT on gold bullion and gold coins (you do pay VAT on gold jewelry). Kruger rands are a legal currency and as such they do not need to be declared at customs when entering Switzerland. It is important, however, that you have records as to how you obtained the gold coins because customs authorities reserve the right to question you.
