I am unemployed and receive unemployment money here in Switzerland. Recently I turned down a job offer because I did not feel the job was really me, and it seems the unemployment office people where pretty upset about that. Do I have to accept any jobs I am offered when I am on unemployment benefits in Switzerland?

Hi there,

If you receive Swiss unemployment benefits from the unemployment office, you are generally required to accept any job offer you receive.

However, exceptions are made if jobs are completely unrelated to your previous work and professional experience, are incompatible with other aspects of your life (family, health, etc.), require a daily commute of more than 4 hours, the salary is lower than 70% of your previous salary (as insured by the unemployment office), or if the job will hamper your career.
