I got someone to translate our rental contract for us and one point mentioned in the contract is that we are responsible for repairs to apartment. Shouldn't the landlord cover the cost of repairs?

Hi there,

As a renter, you are only responsible to handle small repairs which can easily be completed without the help of specialists (minor plumbing jobs, for example). The landlord is required to cover the cost of larger repairs which require specialized services and cannot be performed by the renter.

Damages which you inflict on the rented property, on the other hand, are your responsibility. If you have personal liability insurance, your insurance will cover the cost of repairing (most) damages for which you are liable.

Best regards from Moneyguru
