My mate was showing me something on his phone and just my luck, the phone fell out of my hand and is perfectly buggered. He says I don't have to pay for a new one but I can't do that to him. So I want to know if my Swiss haftpflicht insurance can pay for a new one. Otherwise I will just pay for it myself.

Swiss personal liability insurance cover damages which policyholders inflict on third-party property. In this case you can claim an insurance benefit to compensate for the damages which you inflicted on your friend's phone.
Bear in mind that the insurance benefit will normally equal the actual cash value of the phone and not its replacement value. You will also have to pay a deductible.
