I need a wheelchair to get around. Can I claim the cost of a wheelchair from social security?

Swiss disability insurance covers the cost of wheel chairs (both motorized and non-motorized). However, the wheelchair will either be supplied directly by the social security office, or will be purchased or rented by them on your behalf. If you purchase or rent a wheelchair yourself, you may not be reimbursed for the cost.

If you live in Switzerland and receive an old-age pension, the old-age and survivors insurance covers 75% of the cost of non-motorized wheelchairs up to a maximum contribution of CHF 900 every 5 years (or CHF 1840.00/CHF 2200.00 every 5 years for specialized wheelchairs).
