Is it true that dog owners have to pay special dog taxes in Switzerland? We will be moving to Switzerland soon and our family includes four adorable beagles. How heavily can we expect to be fleeced?

Hi there,

Dog taxes in Switzerland are levied on a municipal level and vary widely from one municipality to another. In the City of Zurich, a municipal dog tax of 130 francs and a cantonal dog tax of 30 francs per dog per year is levied. In the City of Bern the dog tax is 115 francs per dog per year. In Lucerne the annual dog tax is 120 francs per dog.

You can find information about dog taxes in your future place of residence here.
