I literally just got off the boat and am starting a new life in Switzerland. Along with dozens of other questions, I want to know how to get health insurance here. Do I have to wait till I am registered? Which insurance company has affordable health insurance with decent coverage?

Thanks people

Greetings and welcome to Switzerland,

A certain amount of health insurance is compulsory in Switzerland. Anyone who registers as a resident in Switzerland has to get this compulsory health insurance coverage unless they already have insurance coverage from their home country which provides at least as much coverage.

All residents have to be covered by a compulsory health insurance policy, so insurance companies cannot reject your application.

There are many insurance providers which offer compulsory health insurance policies, but the benefits are dictated by law so you get the same level of coverage not matter which policy you choose (though customer service and claim settlement processes differ). You can get an overview of what is covered in our guide to Swiss compulsory health insurance coverage.

You can use the moneyland.ch compulsory health insurance comparison to find the best deal on compulsory health insurance. Customer satisfaction ratings and detailed information about reimbursement periods when indirect settlement is used is also provided.

Best regards from Moneyguru
