Hi there,

In order to apply for a helplessness allowance, you must meet the following criteria:

- You must receive a disability pension equal to at least 25% of a full disability pension. A full disability pension is the pension which you would be entitled to if you were to pay at least the minimum social security contribution throughout the full contribution period.

- You are unable to perform the taks required in order to live independently and thus require care from a third party.

- You are unable to leave your home to perform necessary tasks without the help of a third party.

- You are at serious risk of becoming socially isolated due to your inability to socialize without the help of a third party.

The size of the allowance depends on your level of helplessness, as assessed by the social security office. If you stay in a care home, you may still be entitled to an allowance, but this will not be more than 50% of the allowance which you would receive if you lived in your own home.
