I’ll be visiting the US and prefer to take US dollars (my Swiss bank doesn’t charge me commissions) and avoid paying outrageous credit and debit card fees as much as possible. How much money can I take with me without issues?
You can carry any amount under US$ 10,000 or equivalent foreign currency without declaring it. If you need more than that for your trip, make sure to declare it on the appropriate form (FinCEN 105) before you pass through customs.
