My application to rent an apartment in Geneva has been accepted, but when I chatted with one of my future neighbors in the same building, he seemed to think that the rent was high. Is there a way I can find out what the tenants who rented the apartment before me paid in rent. That would help me understand whether or not I am being taken for a ride.

Thanks

Hi there,

In Switzerland, landlords often take the opporunity provided by a change of tenants and the signing of a new rental agreement to raise rents.

Your prospective landlord is required to state the rent paid by the previous tenants if you request it. Some cantons make the listing of the previous rent on rental home application forms obligatory.
