A distant relative of mine in Switzerland passed away not long ago. He had no immediate family, parents, siblings etc. as they had passed on before him. As far as I know I am his next of kin (my mom was his cousin). He left a lot of money and property but no will as far as I know. Can I inherit his money?

Hi there,

As a cousin of the deceased (or a child of a cousin) you may be entitled to inherit their assets if you are indeed next of kin (there are no closer relatives) and they did not leave a will.

You can get a good overview of the entitlement chain in the moneyland.ch guide to Swiss inheritance law.
