My wife and I are looking at retirement destinations in countries along the Mediterranean and we have heard that Croatia is or was a great place to retire because taxes on pensions are low. Is that still the case?

Hi there,

Before Croatia became a member of the European Union (EU) no taxes were levied on income derived from foreign old-age pensions. However, since Croatia became an EU member state, the government has classified pensions as taxable income. This has made Croatia less attractive as a retirement destination from a financial perspective.
