A loss-of-income insurance is offered as part of compulsory Swiss health insurance. This means that anyone is entitled to take out this insurance and insurance providers cannot refuse anyone a policy. Because of the high risk and because there are no legal minimums on the replacement income which insurers are required to pay out, benefits are generally so small that they only compensate you for a small part of lost income.

Unless you are unable to get non-compulsory loss of income insurance (because of your health condition, for example), the loss-of-income insurance available as supplementary health insurance is a better choice because benefits cover most or all of your lost income.
