Hi forum,

I am curious about occupational disability insurance in Switzerland. What options are there? What is the cheapest insurance for this? Can I get insurance for specific hazards like illness or accidents only? What are the qualification periods? How high are the benefits?

Thanks for your help here.

Hi there,

In Switzerland you receive basic disability insurance through the social security scheme. You also receive disability insurance through your occupational pension fund. However, the pensions you receive from these compulsory insurances is based on the amount you contribute to the schemes, and may not provide adequate income.

For this reason, many people take out additional disability insurance. Companies which offer disability insurance include AXA Winterthur, Allianz, Groupe Mutuel, Generali, Helvetia and Zurich.

Because premiums vary based on many different factors, you will have to request free quotes for your specific situation from as many insurance companies as possible in order to find the most affordable policy.
