Hi there,

Motorist legal expenses insurance covers the cost of legal disputes with insurance providers, legal disputes about automobile-related contracts, legal disputes about automobile-related taxes and the cost of legal cases related to road and traffic disputes.

Personal legal insurance covers a wide range of other possible legal situations including legal expenses resulting from disagreements with landlords, the cost of legal representation during law suits filed by you or against you, employment-related legal cases, and many more.

You can generally take out both types of insurance individually at most insurance providers. You can compare legal insurance (both motorist and personal) using the interactive legal insurance comparison on moneyland.ch.

Best regards from Moneyguru

Hi there, I am also a bit confused with these two types of insurances.

Do I really need to pay for TCS Legal Insurance AND AXA Legal Insurance I have? Wouldn’t one of them cover all my needs?

It would be great to be able to pay someone to assess all the insurance mess we have in our house so we can be advised on which ones are overlapped so we can save money. Anyone offering this type of service?

Thanks

Fernando

Hi there,

If your car is insured with AXA and you also have an auto club membership with TCS, there are some key points to consider:

  • Does your AXA car insurance include roadside assistance? The AXA Compact car insurance policy includes roadside assistance in Switzerland by default, with the option of extending coverage to Europe as well. The Basic AXA policy includes roadside assistance in Switzerland by default, but you have the option of excluding it. If your car insurance includes roadside assistance, having a TCS membership as well may not be worth it (assuming the primary reason for getting a TCS membership is to access roadside assistance).
  • There is no point in having 2 legal expenses insurance policies. Check the exact coverage provided by your TCS and AXA legal insurance policies to determine which better suits your needs. If all you need is motorist legal insurance, TCS is the more affordable option, as the interactive legal protection insurance comparison shows. It also has a higher sum insured and no deductible (AXA-ARAG Basic has a deductible of 15%, min. CHF 2000).
  • If you need personal legal protection as well, AXA is the more affordable option for that and its coverage is more extensive – but there are better solutions for combined legal insurance which you can find using the legal protection insurance comparison.

Please feel free to list insurance policies which you hold here. We will do our best to advise you as to which policies overlap.
