What is straight through processing and how does it make a difference for stock traders?
Hi there,
Straight-through processing (German: Durchgehende Datenverarbeitung) is the term used to denote the practice of electronically transferring data between the parties in a clearing and settlement process.
In Straight-through processing, original data is transferred directly between all parties involved, elminating the need to re-enter the same data at each point in the settlement process. Transactions are identified by a 16-digit identifier which remains the same throughout the process. This allows transactions to be largely automated.
The SIX Swiss Exchange uses straight through processing for certain transactions.
