Does Swiss health insurance cover the costs of contacts? I seem to recall this being advertised somewhere. Is that actually the case?

Greetings,

Swiss compulsory health insurance only covers the costs of contact lenses under particular circumstances when contact lenses are considered to be medically necessary.

But a number of supplementary health insurance policies cover the cost of glasses and contact lenses up to cetain limits. However, these policies generally bundle many different benefits which may not apply to your needs. The contact lense benefits alone do not justify the cost of premiums so you should only get these policies if you can benefit from the other coverage as well.

You can find more information about health insurance policies that include contact lense benefits here.

The unbiased supplemental insurance comparison on moneyland.ch makes it easy to find policies which provide contact lense benefits. Simply select the "Glasses and contact lenses" filter to limit comparison results to policies which cover part of the cost of contact lenses. Additionally, the sort tool lets you list results based on the contact lense benefits they provide instead of by costs.
