How are tips classified for tax purposes in Switzerland? Are they considered taxable income? If so, do I need to keep track of the tips I receive? I work in the tourist business and often receive generous tips. Also, if my tips are paid by credit card to my employer's account, does my employer have to tax the money (VAT, etc.) or is there a way they can declare that this is my money?

Hi there,

In Switzerland, tips qualify as taxable income and should be declared as such on your tax return. You are also required to pay social security contributions on income you earn through tips as this technically counts as part of your salary.
