I own a motorcylce but only use it during the warm months of the year. Can I turn in my license plates before winter and cancel my insurance until the spring?

It is possible to turn in license plates to the traffic office for a time. You can then present the certificate you receive upon turning in your license plates to your insurance provider and request that they put your insurance policy on hold.
It is worth noting, however, that some Swiss insurance providers do not charge premiums on motorcycle insurance during winter months - or discount winter months from annual premiums. This allows you to benefit from insurance savings without the hassle of turning in your license plates and then collecting them in the spring.
