I plan to travel to other European countries by car. I did some online research and apparently I need something called a "green card" to pove that I have car insurance in some countries. What is a green card? Where can I get one?

Hi there,

A green card, with regards to car insurance, is a document which serves as international proof of liability car insurance. It is accepted in most European countries and some Asian and African countries.

Most Swiss car insurance providers issue green cards upon request - typically free of charge.

Countries in which a green card serves as proof that you are covered with adequate liability car insurance include:

Albania
Andorra
Belarus
Belgium
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Finnland
France
Greece
Hungary
Italy
Iran
Ireland
Iceland
Israel
Croatia
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Morocco
Macedonia
Moldova
Montenegro
Netherlands
Norway
Austria
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Russia
Sweden
Switzerland
Serbia
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain
Tunisia
Turkey
Ukraine
United Kingdom
